The past week has seen the Gujjars of Rajasthan on the warpath again. This time they’re protesting an order of the Rajasthan High Court which rejected reservations granted to them by the former government headed by Vasundhara Raja Scindia. As they did the previous time, Gujjars have blocked Rajasthan’s railway tracks, arterial roads, and a national highway to bring attention to their demand for reservations. Rajasthan’s Gujjars, a powerful community in the state, are certain the Ashok Gehlot government will give in, irrespective of the High Court’s ruling.
Governments are formed on caste equations and use such appeasement exercises as a way to sustain caste divides. The Centre and Rajasthan government will probably find a way to keep restive Gujjars happy. At a time when India is emerging as a major economic power, it is worth asking ourselves: should there be caste reservations at all? It is beyond reasonable doubt that caste reservations are of dubious benefit. The argument that some truly deserve it is lame, too. Despite quotas, India’s poor remain poor, while the creamy layer of every caste walks away with the gains. The theoretical arguments around this issue are complex. It is argued that caste-based reservations enable upward mobility and offer dignity to the downtrodden. But how can their dignity be preserved when there are other meritorious candidates applying for the jobs they get?
If politicians and supporters of reservations argue that India’s backward castes have not had adequate access to various services to develop their intellectual faculties, who is to blame for this? What about the poor who fall under the ‘open category’? Don’t they lack access to the same services? Reservations make the government and its service providers insensitive to the needs of the poor. What else can explain the crumbling health care and education systems that are specifically designed for these reserved categories? Some years ago, when I was doing a story on malnutrition, I visited a hospital in a tribal area. The hospital was unclean, and the beds were unhygienic. When I asked why, the doctor in charge told me tribal’s feel uncomfortable in a clean environment. This doctor had risen to his post through caste-based quotas.

INDIA - A fail Democracy
No society has been able to abolish human sadness; no political system can deliver us from the pain of living, from our fear of death, our thirst for the absolute. It is the human condition that directs the social condition ,not vice versa -Eugene Lonesco From the starting of human civilization ,society is being ruled by some or the other form of political system. There are various form of political system such as AUTOCRACY, COMMUNISM, ONSERVATISM, DEMOCRACY, IMPERIALISM, MONARCHY, FASICM and many more. In modern world most of the countries follow democratic system but still there are countries that follows communism, monarchy, military junta form of governments. Democracy is the most popular political system followed by the various nations throughout the world. Basically there are two major modes of democracy.
1. Government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is retained and directly exercised by the people.
2. Government by popular representation; a form of government in which the supreme power is retained by the people, but is indirectly exercised through a system of representation and delegated authority periodically renewed; a constitutional representative government. In India we follow the second system .Our country is the Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic with a parliamentary system of government. It is the largest democracy in the world.
Democracy is the government by the people it means people choose their representatives by exercising their right to vote in the parliament. But are we really living in democracy? There are various equations to this question. Some say it is running well and some are with the view that though it is a democracy but it’s a privilege of few. Our nation is divided into 28 states and 7 union territories with each state having its different culture and language .People of different religion, castes and creed are residing in this great nation which makes it really diverse.
But then also there is unity in diversity among us. But sometimes in democracy when the power is in the hands of wrong people it functions exactly likes despotism. According to Indian constitution we have several fundamental rights such as right to equality, right to freedom, right to freedom from exploitation, right to freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights, right to constitutional remedies .Though all these rights are for each and every Indian citizen still every Indian cannot exercise these rights properly. If each Indian citizen is fortunate enough to exercise his rights properly India can become a perfect democracy. The reason behind this irony is the corruption, nepotism, regionalism, poverty, illiteracy ,casteism .
In this great nation sometimes law changes according to the position of an individual; for rich its different and for poor its different and unfortunately this practice has become a part of the system. As we all know that there are three pillars of democracy in our country which are executive, polity, judiciary and some people consider press as the fourth one. But unfortunately every one of them failed in their assigned duty. Let’s study each of them one by one. To start with executive which is the weakest of them it is headed by the president who exercise his or her power through the officers subordinate to him or her. According to the study of political science executive branch of government is that part of government that has sole authority and responsibility for the daily administration of the daily bureaucracy .Unfortunately each and every government department functioning in our country is corrupt to the core. Because of which common man has to suffer a lot. let’s take the example of police department many people have even died due to police atrocities for instance ruche girhotra case which involves the molestation of 14- year-old Ruchika Girhotra in 1990 by the Inspector General of Police shambu pratap singh rathore in chandigarh .
After she made a complaint, the victim, her family, and her friends were systematically harassed by the police leading to her eventual suicide .Fake cases of theft and murder were filed against ruchika's father and her brother. Even the school authorities were instructed to expel ruchika, Because of the continuous harassment by one of the department of our executive estate which is responsible for the safety and security of citizens a 14 year old small girl committed suicide. Such kind of democracy we lives in where the rich and powerful can do anything they wish. Now let’s discuss the second pillar of democracy which is polity. Due to the diversity based on region, religion, caste, and language various political parties have formed, who just for their political gains creates a divide between the people belonging to same nation.
Political system of this country have become so corrupt that just to be in power parties and candidates make full use of money and muscle because of which corrupt candidates wins and instead of working for the development of nation they work for their personal gains. Criminalization of politics has gone to such an extent in this democratic system that each and every political party has candidates who have criminal records. Though election commission came up with newer and stricter reforms then also it’s not possible to stop participation of criminals into Indian political system. There are many criminals like mukhtar ansari, paapu yadav ,munna shukla and a never ending list of such kind of criminals who are still very active in politics .
Also there are some regional parties who on the name of language and region creating an atmosphere of hatred within our own countrymen just to achieve their political motives. Though we say that India is showing a strong development in terms of economy but still 70% of Indian population lives in rural areas who are still deprived of basic amenities .Government has launched various schemes under its flag ship programme such as sarv shiksha abhiyan, nrega, bharat nirman, central rural sanitation programme but unfortunately except sarv shiksha abhiyan none of them is implemented properly. In these schemes funds are straight away transferred from central government to panchayat level but due to the corruption at panchayat level these schemes are not getting implemented.
Again corruption comes into role and over here also corruption is done by the panchayat officials elected by the people. It’s great that women get 33% reservation in gram panchayat ( village assembly) and municipal elections but still there are lot of cases in which the woman who got elected as the head of gram panchayat(village assembly) is sitting at home and his husband is actually playing the role of village head on her behalf. Definitely with such kind of public representatives any democracy can be endangered. The third pillar of democracy is judiciary which is said to be independent and impartial .Infact it is the only pillar of democracy in which people still have faith.
But then also it is always been criticize of its delayed judgment .Justice delivery system is expensive as well as time consuming infact there are around 250 million cases pending in various courts of India. To get justice fast some litigants gets involve in corrupt practices. In past couple of years corruption charges against some judges have been reported like the Sumit Mukherjee scandal of the Delhi High Court; the club scandal of the Punjab High Court; and most recent case of justice dinakaran of Karnataka. It means judiciary is not maintaining it status with responsibility and dignity. A widely known fact about judiciary is that it suffers from lack of freedom, poor infrastructure, and shortage of judges and unfortunately the government is not supporting the process of empowerment of judiciary. Basically judiciary is been neglected by both executive and polity they want to keep it weak so that they can manipulate it when required.
There are cases when rich people have influenced the decision of court by money or power.Inspite of all this still many steps are being taken for judicial reforms for eg a judge has to declare his or assets and liabilities before taking any new appointment, fast track courts etc .Anyways the corruption level in judiciary is less then executive and legislative and that is why people still have faith in it. Finally let’s take in to account the Press which is considered by many as the fourth pillar of democracy. Press has a very important role to play in democracy .
It help us to know about the truth of events at national as well as international level. Press makes u aware about social, political, economical activities happening around the world. It has become life line of the nation. The press also exposes loopholes in the democratic system. It is the press only who reminds politicians about their unfulfilled promises at the time of elections. But with the advent of electronic media things have changed a lot, now every news channel's primary concern is increasing TRP rating. These channels sounds more like an entertainment channel then a news channel.
They sensationalized each n every news just to increase their viewership .The media instead of being a vehicle for advancing freedom and democracy started becoming more and more a means of making money and propaganda for the new and powerful classes. Money is ruling over morals and profit motive has made the media forget its social responsibilities. Media is no more interested in creating awareness in people about social causes or revolutionizing the society instead of this it is interested in increasing viewers by offering them entertainment ,education, knowledge and information. Because of the corruption in all the estates of democracy .it is really difficult for a democracy to survive. Inspire of being known as the largest democracy in the world because of the conditions mentioned above we are acting as a failed democracy. If we have to save it then we have eradicate this system of corruption from our democratic country.
1. Government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is retained and directly exercised by the people.

Equating Nationalist and Antinationalist Organization for political gains
As we all know that Mr. Rahul Gandhi is in Madhya Pradesh for youth congress membership programme and I am surprised to read his statement in which he equates RSS with SIMI. According to him congress party is the party which is only for people who do not support ideology neither of RSS nor of SIMI. We will discuss about this later lets first compare between RSS and SIMI. Let’s put some light on some facts about SIMI. The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI which is a banned organization and proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
It is an Islamic fundamental organization which wanted to convert India in to Islamic state by using force or violence. This organization believes in establishing sharia based Islamic rule in India by mobilizing youth and involving them in terrorist activities. For the kind information of Shri Rahul Gandhiji SIMI does not believe in secularism as well as Indian Constitution. According to the ideology of SIMI Nationalism, Democracy, Secularism are against Islam and we all know these are the three things which prevails in our country and our constitution is based on it. Not only this according to the SIMI, Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is an outstanding example of a true Mujahid, who has undertaken Jihad on behalf of the 'ummah'(Muslim brotherhood).SIMI was closely associated with organizations like Hizbul mujahiddin, jammat -e-Islam units of Pakistan and bangladesh, lashkar-e-toiba, ISI and as we know all these organizations are enemies of our country which are responsible for all the terror plots in our nation.
So basically SIMI is an organization who was hell bound to destroy peace and harmony of our country, who is responsible for creating communal discord between our own countrymen and who consider Osama bin Laden as a true believer of Islam and respect him as an 'Islamic Hero' .According to my view any sensible person will consider organizations like this as a terrorist organization or organization involved in promotion of militancy and will consider members of this organization as anti national elements who are enemies of India. Now let’s discuss about the other organization which is known as RSS.Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh or National Volunteer organization. The name itself depicts that this organization works on the ideology of nationalism. Have you ever heard about the indulgence of RSS in any anti national activity? I think everybody will say a big no to this question but there are some people who are misguided about RSS.So in order to clear their views let’s find out what this organization is all about?Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh is an organization which was founded by Dr keshav baliram Hedgewar in the year 1925 to protest against british imperialism. Since that time RSS volunteers have participated in many social and political movements for the betterment of nation.
There are many organizations like Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Ekal vidyalaya, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Vidya Bharati, Seva Bharati who are working under the banner of RSS for the development of socially deprived and economically poor countrymen. It is involved in various social reforms like it has promoted training of dalits to work as a temple high priest which is a place generally reserved for the Brahmin society .There is nothing such as casteism in RSS .Let me describe you one incidence when Mahatma Gandhi visited one RSS camp at wardha and later on he commented "When i visited the RS Camp. I was very much surprised by discipline and absence of untouchables .
RSS has always worked in the favour of society .RSS volunteers are famous for their relief and rehabilitation work during natural calamities (Gujarat earth quake, Tsunami, Orissa cyclone and many more) and for running more than 1 lakh service programmes in Education, health care, rural development, tribal liberation, village self sufficiency and the rehabilitation of disable children. Not only this right from Land reform (Bhoodan Movement) ,Rashtriya swayamsewak sangh has participated in Liberation of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Goa,India- China war of1962 and were also involved in protecting Sikhs during 1984 anti sikh riots .So this organization seems to have done work for the welfare of nation and can be declare as a patriotic organisation. But then also people are equating RSS with SIMI it’s just like equating a patriot and an antinational which is not at all fair in the view of a common Indian. Before I put a full stop to this discussion let’s take in to account Mr. Rashid Alvi Honourable Member of Indian National Congress .He commented on the day of VIJAYDIWAS (day of kargil martyrs) that "Kargil is not a thing to celebrate. The war was fought in our territory.
We didn’t even come to know when the Pakistani army crossed and built bunkers inside our territory. It’s only the NDA which can celebrate and on top of that other leader of Congress party Mr. Shri Prakash Jaiswal didn’t even know when the kargil war was fought and won. So before making such irresponsible comments Mr. Rahul Gandhi should think first and should not utter something which is totally irrelevant. Last but not least a responsible and sensible human being can easily differentiate between nationalist and antinationalist organizations

Climate Change to cause a ‘Massive’ Food Disruption
International food provisions have to face an “enormous disruptions” because of the climate change. Climate around the world is changing day by day due to global warming and other factors. This may cause a massive inflation all over the world. An uncommonly intense heavy rain showers had resulted in ruthless flooding across many countries resulting in disruption of food increase. Food is becoming less available and more expensive, the price of food product such as rice, corn, wheat etc are rising day by day.
Sunny Varghese, chief executive officer at Olam International Ltd says, “The fact is that climate around the world is changing and that had caused a massive inflation and it may cause more substantial inflation”. Decrease in global food supplies has helped the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization’s Price Index to a record the disruption in January. It had come into notice that in the month of January, 68% of food commodity got squander because of climate change. Food becomes less available and more expensive. Predictions are made that the prices of wheat and other grains are more likely to rise than decline in the next six months. Corn will rise up to 90 percent, wheat 80 percent and soybeans 49 percent and other grains may also rise to some extends. Declining of food supplies caused riots in 30 countries including Haiti and Egypt. May-delivery soybeans fell 0.2 percent to $14.13 a bushel, while wheat for delivery in the same month slipped 0.6 percent to $8.985 a bushel. Rough-rice for March delivery declined 2.4 percent to $15.36 per 100 pounds.
The International Food Policy Research Institute stated that “There will be an increasing in food crisis globally due to climate change. The increase in food products has become too high for some developing countries to buy the agricultural products they need, raising the risk of food riots.” Food inflation has become a great problem in the whole World. Effective measures are taken globally to overcome this problem. On January 24th the British government’s chief scientific officer said that “the case for urgent action in the global food system is now compelling.” The seed companies, food processors and grain traders proclaimed that, “The world needs a new vision for agriculture.” They promised to work with farmers and governments to boost farm output, cut emissions and reduce rural poverty.
India is also trying to prevail over this crisis.
In India, Food inflation increased to 16.44 per cent in the December - January. The cost of cereals, fruits, select vegetables and milk rose due to heavy rains and floods. An unusually heavy spell of late monsoon showers had resulted in severe flooding across many countries resulting in disruption of supplies. Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh said that the inflation would rise additional this year. India had managed to balance the Increase in food prices above 15 per cent in the past few months of January. He also said that the way India tackled the financial crisis was encouraging. The government had introduced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme of MGNREGA that guarantees each laborer a daily wage of Rs. 100 which will be adjusted to the consumer price index.
